How time fly's - we've been having a ball at the store these past few weeks - we've got lots of new fabric in including some cute Halloween/Fall prints and tons of absolutely beautiful Christmas prints and panels!

Come on in!!

Lydia's quilts will be up for a few more weeks - I'm busy working on the fall class schedule - I'll let you know when it's ready.

I thought I should share this picture of Carolyn who spent a frustrating morning on her computer and came to work with two different shoes on!

We were really busy last Saturday. However, at some point in the middle of the afternoon things calmed down and we just had three women in the store shopping. I was signing one up for a class and one of the other women was having fabric cut - she let us know that she was from Newfoundland. Well, that started a whole conversation about one of my favourite shows "The Republic of Doyle" and how its brought more tourists to the island. Now, you have to picture this - I had the one woman at the cash and soon the woman from NFLD. was beside her and then all three of us were deep in conversation - I turned to the first woman and said that I hoped I didn't offend her but, I wanted to thank the woman from NFLD for voting Liberal in the last election. The woman from Kingston said not to worry she didn't like "you know who" and that led to all of us being in agreement. Remember, the third woman was still wondering around not saying a word.
The two women left and the third woman came to the cash with her fat quarters. I started talking glasses with her because she had to take her bifocals off to read the interact machine and she explained that she had readers but, was too lazy to take them out - the reason she had readers and not trifocals was becasue she did a lot of public speaking and at the podium with tri's she saw double! Great reason - I was happy to leave things at that - I figured she was a prof. But, no Judi had to ask "What do you do for a living?" I cringed when she said - "I hesitate to say after hearing the last conversation". That's right - not only is she a Conservative but, she is the Minister of Human Resources in the SH Government.
She was very gracious and I enjoyed the conversation the ensued.
When I told my oldest daughter what had happened, her comment was that I should never discuss politics at work - right you are! When I told Adriana what had happened and what my daughters response to me was she said "Margaret, if we put duct tape on your mouth every time you said the wrong thing - you'd be taped up 24 hours a day!"

Here are the two pics of the July Block of the Month - thanks to Marlene once again.
She has also made the following comment about the July block:
July – it says to cut 2 of the Fabric D (green). You need 4 of these and therefore I didn’t have enough fabric in this package to make the 4. Luckily I scrimped from other months and made out okay.

I try to get it right - so, sorry folks - if, you can't manage to get the extra from leftovers from previous months please let us know.

I can't get over the beautiful weather - it's a WOW!! I've got my youngest daughter visiting this week - and I get to drive her back to the Toronto airport on Sunday - which is a shame because I would have loved to stay home and help Loretta Moore out with her Rug Hooking class and now Carolyn gets to do it.
This weekend is Mystery Block of the Month - check in is 8:45 am (that's always hard for me because I tend to work 'bankers hours' - you know 10 am - 3 pm). We always have a good time - don't forget to bring something in for "Show & Tell"!

Canada Day

Happy Canada Day - I tried to get to this earlier in the evening but, my grandson took over my laptop. What a great day - the weather was beautiful and I actually got to do a little celebrating - I was babysitting the two grand kids with my youngest daughter. We took them to Howe Island to visit a friend of hers who has just bought a sea-doo. When we first arrived one of my daughters friends neighbour (hows that for a mouthful) decided to take it for a spin. She started it while it was sitting in sand and rock! I took the kids to Gananoque - we had a ball (I have never seen so many red t-shirts in one place) and they took over an hour to get the rocks out of the sea-doo. We did get in a few trips before we had to leave - it was great fun and a real treat to see a bit of the Thousand Islands.
Remember - there is no Mystery Block-of-the-Month tomorrow - it is scheduled for Saturday, July 9.

Debbi and I are in Toronto - we have to be at Husqvarna Viking tomorrow morning at 9 am for our certification training on the new Designer Diamond Deluxe. We have our Diamond Deluxe with us in our room and guess what?? We're working on our blogs - gotta have your priorities straight!
We are in a beautiful hotel right downtown courtesy of my daughter Jessica - the mini bar is on motion detection - so, whether you actually drink or eat something in the fridge - if you move it you are charged for it - I accidentally moved a can of beer - too bad I don't drink the stuff - now if there had been a bottle of Shiraz I may have had to shake the whole fridge.

Sorry for the delay in posting these pictures - if you haven't cut your fabric yet please be careful when cutting the background - you should cut the four as per the diagram - 2 x 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" across - the other two same size below and the the 2- 4" sq. 1 on top of the other and then finally the 4 1/2" sq. I hope that helps - if you have any problems leave me a note or call me at 613-389-2223.

Sunday Morning

Have to tell you that I went to see "Bridesmaids" with one of my girlfriends last night - it's a must see, with a word of caution: it is not for those of us who may be a little prudish. Oh, and go with a girlfriend not a husband or boyfriend! I am not (prudish) and I haven't had that good a laugh in years - how nice - the critics were right!!
I'm getting excited about Shop Hop this year - should be great fun - each of the four stores have made terrific quilt's for it - the kits are a bit more this year but, you don't need to buy 5 or 6 this time.

I'm trying to change the look of our blog and can't figure out how to get rid of the patchwork background - any ideas!! I'm close but it's still not right and it's starting to look a little BORING!!
FYI - I took back the brace that I accidentally bought for my left hand but of course, the drug store didn't have another one in my size for my right hand. It's taken me a couple of days but, I finally found one that fits @ twice the price (story of my life). I've been wearing it off and on ever since and I think it's making a difference. As recommended - I will wear it to bed - thanks for the advise Suzette.

If you don't already know I walk my grandson to school every morning. This week we were talking about what we were going to do in September - I asked him if it was ok if I still walked him to school - he said yes he expected that I'd continue (and I quote) "pretty much until I graduate Gram". He's made my year!!

Could it be... too hot!!
I just want you to know that the reason you don't hear from me as often is because I'm having a problem with my right hand. Last night I got smart and went to the drug store to buy a brace -$27 ugh! When I got home I decided to do some work on the computer and went to put the brase on. Guess what - yep - I bought it for the wrong hand!

We're off to the Guild dinner tonight - it should be exciting and the food is always great!

Hi, I just have to share this with you. Yesterday, I went home early (my son was coming over for supper) and on the way back at 6:30 to help out with a class I was listening to the CBC. This fellow was going on about two horrible run ins he'd had with wild turkeys. Well, I'd never heard of anything like it - the poor guy had had one of them take off his side mirror and then a couple of months later, while driving north on hwy. 38 had had one fly into his car (he had all the windows open because it was a beautiful day in June). It hit him in the back of the head and landed on the back seat and died. But, the bird didn't just pass away - oh no, he exploded, filling the car with feathers. The poor guy almost lost control of the car but, he did manage to pull over and stop. He was so mad that he grabbed the dead bird out of the back seat and kicked it into the nearest field. He obviously wasn't thinking about food at the time - he could have taken it home for dinner! That in itself was funny enough - but, when I got back to the store Debbi was on the phone with her husband - I could hear him yelling - Debbi, getting annoyed with him kept asking if he'd called the police.
I was intrigued! It turns out that her husband, driving their niece home to Westport had had a run-in with a... wild turkey! The turkey had taken out a head light and dented the hood of their SUV (over $1,000 damage). But, Debbi's husband was thinking because he stopped the vehicle and grabbed the dead bird and brought it home to eat!!

The co-incidence was too much!!

What a beautiful sunny day - I almost forgot what the sun was like!! Having a small Easter dinner tonight (all is well, I'm not cooking). My family is too busy for me this year - it's great because it gives me time to sew - which these days is a luxury! I hope you all have a great holiday weekend - we're open tomorrow and Monday - drop in for a visit, have a treat and crack and egg for a discount (15% - 40%)!
Just a little side note: My daughter, son-in-law and I went to vote at one of the advanced polls (had to leave because the cue was too long) - but, my daughter was telling me that my grandson told her not to vote for Alicia Gordon because he didn't like her signs - funny how kids think!!

I had a great time at the Napanee Quilter's Guild last night - what an amazing (large) group of quilter's. Their Show & Tell was inspiring!! I spoke about needles, thread and batting. I dont know about anyone else but, I had a great time.

It's Easter weekend and we're closed this Good Friday but, open Saturday and Monday - drop in and crack an egg for a discount.

Poor me, back from the first holiday I've had in years; back to cold and rain and snow - oh, wait - that's what I left in Florida - except that we had tornado's and lots of lightening (they counted over 200 strikes in less than 4 hours) instead of snow!
Things are hoping at Quilt & Stitch - I am desperately trying to finish the class schedule - we have some exciting stuff for you this spring.
I'll keep you posted - this Saturday is our Mystery Block of the Month -I'll post pictures of the block early next week.

I hear you're getting snow in Kingston. Well, my daughter Britney and I got caught in the middle of a tornado warning yesterday - fortunately we had just parked the car and were heading into a mall - for what else... shopping!! It was pretty scary - woke up to another threat this morning (which should be over by noon).

There is a bright side to all this - I'm not getting sun burned and no one has to see me in a bathing suit.
The weather is supposed to get much better by Friday and there should be sunny skies until we leave on Monday.

Still day 1 - still pouring - but, had a great time shopping though - maxed the credit card in just four hours!!! Gotta do some internet banking tonight - ha, ha!!
It looks like Orlando got 5 inches of rain today - so. when I told my daughter, who was whining about
the torrential downpour, that it was still better than snow - she replied "It doesn't snow in Florida" - exactly said I.

Well, here I am in beautiful Orlando, Florida. It's nice and warm but, it's pouring rain with heavy thunder and lightening - even the two ducks living in the pond outside on the hotel grounds look like drowned rats.
We arrived yesterday - the sun was blazing - this "it never rains for more than an hour" quote from Britney;s friend who lives down here, is obviously FALSE! Don't get me wrong - I don't mind it at all - getting some work done and going shopping!!!

I'm off to Florida for a week with my youngest daughter - it looks like I'm leaving at a good time - this "spring" is a little too cold for comfort.

Well, I guess this month's block is a real mystery!! I've made an error and I'm sorry but, you need another piece of Fabric D. You need 8 triangles so, you need 4 squares of Fabric D cut in half diagonally, not 2 squares. I have already cut the extra fabric that you need. You can just ask for it at the cash!!

Block of the Month

We had a great Block of the Month meeting on Saturday - even better, Marlene M. sent me pictures of the blocks - thanks Marlene! They're getting more complicated each month - just to keep you all on your toes and to keep Carolyn B. from getting bored when she makes up the samples every month! It's hard to beleive that they're the same block - the batik block is especially interesting this month - the lighter green seems to be creating the illusion of a shadow - I hope you like it!! I have to say that I'm really enjoying this group - it's aways a fun session - makes it all worth while.

We had a great Open House weekend - snow and all!! It's sure nice to see the sun shinning.

Door prize winners are: Jan Koiste, Maureen Sanderson, Ruby Doan and Teri Thayer.

I take Wednesdays off and so yesterday decided that I should make supper for my family - for the first time since Christmas. I made a wonderful meal - with mashed potatoes for my grandson (because that's all he will eat). He just loves them, but being the connoisseur that he is they have to be smooth with absolutely no chunks. Unfortunately, in my zeal to make the perfect mashed potatoes added too much milk and ended up with the consistency of thick soup! My grandson would not eat them. I scooped the potatoes off his plate with a spoon and was about to dump them in the garbage when it suddenly hit me that I should be composting them instead. I pulled the spoon back just in time to avoid the garbage bin but, not the floor. The giant blob of white mush, right in front of my son-in-law, plopped onto the kitchen floor. I started laughing, my son-in-law started rolling his eyes and the dog who has serious digestive problems ran over and inhaled the, what he thought was a treat. Glenn walked away muttering under his breath that I had to clean up the mess the dog was going to make when his stomach rejected the "people food".

It's been a little over a month since I posted my last entry - I have a good excuse - I was totally engrossed in getting our Winter 2011 Class Schedule finished - which it now is and by the way, ready for you to pick up at the store or to download from our web site: http://www.quiltandstitch.ca/newsletters/Winter2011.pdf

Another reason for my absence is that just before Christmas I got very sick - a really bad cold and I'm not better yet!!

My family and I had a great Christmas - my daughter and the grand kids gave me a Tundra coat (good up to 40 below) so, of course the weather warmed up and, just because I'm actually ready for the deep cold for the first time in my life the rest of the winter should be pretty mild!

Our OPEN HOUSE is Friday, Jan. 14 & Saturday Jan. 15 - it's hard to believe that a whole year has gone by - it's our 1st Anniversary! It's party time!!

I don't think I'm ever going to recouperate from getting up at 5 in the morning and making to the store for
6 am Friday. It was difficult for me, at best I'm up at 7:30 am and I don't usually get to work until almost
10 am.
I was trilled by the number of you who dropped in at that early hour and at how many of you actually wore PJ's! Great fun (and savings - over 150 meters of fabric at 40% off) was had by all.

We had a great time on Halloween! I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to post any of the pictures - will try to do just that before the end of the week.
We have a very exciting weekend planned for Quilt & Stitch. Cheryl Stranges is coming from Toronto with Doreen Teasdale and they plan to show us how wonderful the Husqvarna Viking Designer Diamond is on Friday and then Saturday Cheryl will teach us how to get more out of our sergers! It should be great fun!

Our block of the month club met last Saturday - I was late - it's all Carolyn's fault. I walked out the front door at 8:45 am (had to be at the store before 9) and couldn't get my car door open - all four were frozen solid - no one was home of course so, I pulled out my trusty cell phone and call the store - I explained to Carolyn what a predicament I was in - rather than feeling sorry for me or offering to pick me up - she responded "You'll just have to make sure yo get up 15 minutes earlier from now on" and hung up! I was crushed - I think she was busy! Here are the pictures of this months block as promised.

I am very excited about tomorrow - so, much so that I may even wear a costume.
I need something to cheer me up - I've been a bit depressed lately because my lap top died, again.
Well, to tell the truth it's just the screen - now my lap top is just a quasi lap top, so where ever I go I have to take not only the lap top but a computer monitor to go with it!! Sort of takes the fun out of portable!

I took a few pictures at the store today - we had two classes in session and our new service department was busy - there is always lots of excitement at Quilt & Stitch.

My grandson and I were walking home from his school's OPEN HOUSE last night, just before dusk. I heard the famous honk and looked up to see a very large flock of geese flying low and obviously heading south (how sad is that). My grandson thought it was odd that they weren't forming a complete V - the formation looked more like a check mark!
I asked him what he thought was the reason for that and he immediately responded "I think

the rest of them decided to take the long way!" What a hoot!

Hello again

I can't get to the computer as often as I'd like these days - probably because we are so busy at the store that by the time I get home, I crash! It's a wonderful thing to be able to complain about being busy!!
September is an especially busy month for us - we've had a few busy weekends - our Fall Open House and our giant Tent Sale!
Our classes have started - thank goodness we have 2 classrooms - a number of them are full - we've added extra classes to try to accommodate everyone! If there's a class you would have liked to have taken and it's full, please ask to have your name put on the waiting list.

It`s almost October - a month that I love - Halloween is so much fun! We`re going to have a party at Quilt & Stitch, so get started on those costumes folks!

A special story from Quilt & Stitch

I asked one of our staff members to send me the following story so I could share it with you - this tops my electric toothbrush story:

Recently I was telling Margaret and Sharon about some of the funny stories that we told about my mother at her recent 90th birthday – and believe me – they went on for some time – my mother adding details when necessary.
One was about the time that my father tried to teach her to drive. Now I have to paint the picture for you, early 1960’s -my father{ – a large man - 250 lb 6 foot tall and my mother – 105 lb . 5 foot tall. } drove an enormous Oldsmobile complete with gigantic fins and almost as long as a city block. You can imagine that my mother was somewhat intimidated to learn on this “beast”, but my father could not be dissuaded from teaching her.

We lived in suburbia, on the south shore of Montreal. Off they set on the quiet residential streets and all was going well until they drove up to the corner of Taschereau Boulevard – a four lane highway that was a couple of blocks from our home. My dad distinctly said, “Wait for the traffic”. My mother, usually an independent thinker, decided that under the circumstances she had better follow EXACTLY what my father instructed. When the oncoming cars were almost upon her, she stomped on the gas peddle and lurched the car into the traffic lane .

My father – a usually quiet man – was white knuckling the dashboard (pre-seatbelt era), while his eyes bulged out of his head and from somewhere deep inside him a primal scream emerged. My mother, noting that something was wrong, said “Well, you said to WAIT for the traffic. I thought that you were testing my reflexes!!!” Needless to say, she enrolled in a driving school the next week and the instructor earned every penny. On the final day of her classes, he took my mother out for coffee and spent the entire time telling her that he thought that he should close his business and open a laundromat! Cheers, Marilyn

Wow, what an amazing Open House last weekend - I don't think I'm over it yet! I'm going to try and post some of the pictures on our facebook account - keep your fingers crossed - with any luck I'll have it done before the end of this weekend!!

We've had a busy week getting ready for our TENT SALE - there are lots of savings - not just on machines - we're discounting some embroidery design packages and some other notions! Hope to see you there - lots of fun, hopefully no more rain.

I thought I should share the picture of one of my favorite quilts - this quilt - Pickle Dilly - was designed and created be Laurene King-McGill. Laurene has three classes scheduled at Quilt & Stitch this fall - Camelot's Court - which is a gorgeous black, white and red quilt; Finishing Flourishes - a classic - this class was developed by Laurene a few years ago and Silhouette Trapunto - a beautiful piece that could easily be framed or made into a pillow - don't miss this wonderful learning opportunity.

Back to School

Yippee! The kids are back to school tomorrow - how great is that!! I can hardly wait - I think that I'm more excited than my grand kids are.
I must apologize for neglecting our blog - I've been very busy with our fall class schedule and the newsletter - which by the way is ready for pick-up. Don't forget our OPEN HOUSE is this Friday and Saturday. We're should have a great time with our Show & Tell - lots of prizes, discounts - treats and more!
I've been working so hard that I really didn't have anything thing fun to share...until this weekend. My son and daughter-in-law came over for supper Sunday night. My son and his wife are environmentally conscious - they won't wear leather or eat meat - they try to buy food grown and produced in Ontario, etc. and they buy second hand clothes whenever they can. My daughter-in-law was wearing her newest (to her) sweater. She and my son didn't like the button and so asked my daughter and I if we had one she could subsitute. Jessica went and got her stash and I went and got mine (mine was bigger) - Molly picked out out a beautiful pewter button (from my stash) and she asked if I would sew it on for her.
I was happy to - completely ignoring the fact that I had just consumed two and a half glasses of wine (one usually does me in) I grabed the sweater and cut off the old button - I thought what I was cutting was the shank but it wasn't - instead I cut a rather large hole Molly's new sweater. I managed to sew it up and hide it under the, thank goodness, giant button.
I'm not sure but I think she's still speaking to me.

Countdown to FALL

Wow, September is almost here - just 4 days to go - the kids will be back to school on the 7th -
I'm happy in one respect because I get to walk my grandson to school everyday (I desperately need the exercise) - my granddaughter on the other hand, is apparently too old for me to walk her and is going to walk with one of her friends - I'm amazed at how much it's bothering me and how old it's making me feel!!
We're doing weird and wonderful things at the store - our second classroom is getting a face lift -
we're all working very hard but, I think Debbi is working the hardest - harder than I am for sure.

It is going to be an amazing classroom space.
The newsletter is ready for you to pick up - I've had to do a bit of tweaking to the schedule (I made a couple of mistakes - nothing new there) - so make sure you have a copy of the updated one.

Fall Newsletter

Well, I have finally finished the newsletter and can now come up for air!!
You can pick up your copy starting Tuesday or download it from our web site - it should be posted by Wednesday. I felt so good this morning that I started re-organizing - it seems like I'm constantly re-organizing! I decided to hang a few things on my bedroom wall - I had the hammer but, no nails. So, I went out into the garage, where my son-in-law keeps all his tools, to find one. I was in there less than a minute when he followed me in - he doesn't think its safe for me to be in there, especially alone! Imagine!! As soon as he said that, I stepped back and almost broke my right heel on something that I was unaware of behind me, making me drop something. When I leaned over to pick it up I smacked my forehead on the the shop vac. I admit it was right in front of me and big enough to be noticed, but, I didn't. Glenn suggested that I go back into the house, which I did and promptly slammed the door in his face - how was I to know he was following me out!

Ruby Launch

Well we had a great time at the Ruby Launch Party. Doreen Teasdale from Husqvarna Viking did an amazing demonstration of the machine last night. Today she graciously showed a number of us just how easy the new 5D software is to use. All in all it was lots of fun and inspirational.

I didn't get a chance to tell you what a great job Debbi did with Kids Camp last week - I've attached a picture of them holding up their pillowcases and wearing everything else they made - Debbi had trouble keeping up with them - they each made a pillowcase, bag, PJ pants and oven mitts.

I'm waiting for Debbi to bring in her camera - mine wouldn't do the fabric justice - so, hopefully by Tuesday or Wednesday we'll have some pictures of the new fabric posted to our Flikr account - we have a facebook account as well but, my understanding is that you have to be a member to see our page - the flikr account appears to open to all.
Anyway we are busily working away on getting ready for the RUBY party - it's this Friday night from 6:30 - 9 pm - drop in for some fun and entertainment - Doreen Teasdale from Husqvarna will be here to demonstrate the machine and to keep us laughing! NEW ARRIVALS

We have just received some absolutely beautiful fabric - a cotton/silk blend in 15 different (solid) colours! This fabric is great because it makes up into lovely garments - pj's, blouses, skirts - and it will also work well in a quilt top - the cotton adds strength and ease of handling to the weave!! In other words it is the PERFECT fabric!! The fabric is on the machine side of the store so, don't forget to come and see Debbi and me!
It's a sunny day - no humidity - my kind of day. I hope none of you got caught outside in that down pour the other day. I should mention for those of you who live in town - when I was walking my Max (the large white rat looking dog) last night I bumped into a woman who was walking the almost identical beast - she had just seen a coyote walking down the middle of one of the side streets - it might be a good idea to keep your small animals in the house.

5D Software

I'm very excited about the new Husqvarna Viking Ruby and their new 5D software - Debbi is going to give us an overview of the software on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 1 - 3 pm. I didn't get a chance to take any of the classes when we were in Minneapolis last week so, I'm really looking forward to the demonstration. I did download a video of the software promo but, can't find it anywhere on my computer. If you have the time, you might want to go to the Husqvarna Viking web page and have a look. It's good stuff!
Drop in and take a good look at the Ruby - stay for a demo - but, don't forget to come to our launch party - Friday, Aug. 13, 6:30 - 9 pm or Saturday, Aug. 14, 10 am - 4 pm.

Long Weekend

I forgot to post our Holiday hours on the front of the store! Sorry guys! We are closed Sunday and Monday, open again on Tuesday - I hope everyone is having a grand time. The weather is wonderful! Drop in for a piece of cake on Tuesday - it's my birthday.
I may even go to the beach with the family tomorrow.

I can hardly wait for the new Cutwork needles - I had the pleasure of working with them at convention - they are amazing. They come in a kit (relatively inexpensive) and they'll be available in packages of four later - these needles live for over 100 hours - hippie!! The catch is that they work without thread and literally cut your fabric while it's still in the hoop in between thread colour changes - wait till you see what they can do - we are going to have a class before the middle of Sept. - you can let us know if your interested and we'll put you on the call list.

I've been so busy with Convention and the lovely RUBY that I forgot that my birthday is on Tuesday, August 3rd. I think we should eat cake - after all I'm a senior and birthdays need to be celebrated. We may even have a few extra specials for you! Less than 24 hours before we head home. Boo, hoo!! Debbi and I went to the Mall of America last night - it's the second biggest mall in North America - the West Edmonton Mall is the biggest - ha, ha! We walked part of the way back to the hotel last night and came across Mary Tyler Moore's bronze statue - we took a few pictures but, discovered when we got back to the hotel that the SD card was FULL - what a hardship, we have to go out in search of her again tonight - we will try and post her picture tonight.

The RUBY is amazing but, there are some great new feet for all the Husqvarna machines. attention Designer owners - make sure you machine have the latest updates - there are some great new stitches for the Diamond as well. The new feet available are - the 3 hole foot (#413187045) to create unique trims using decorative stitches. Well Debbi and I are off to Mineapolus for the Husqvarna Viking 2010 Convention! Hip, hip, hooray!!

Poor Debbi - imagine having to share a hotel room with moi for 5 days and 4 nights - gotta feel sorry for her.
Debbi is going to take classes on and become certified on the new 5D software - very exciting! I'm going to a number of different classes but, I am taking one to become certified on the new Designer Ruby - that too is very exciting!! The Ruby is a wonderful machine, a more affordable Designer with easy embroidery and beautiful decorative stitches. For Designer 1 owners this machine is the equivalent, with the longer 10" arm (bigger hoops)! I'll keep you posted throughout the week on our blog - Debbi and I are in the store today and tomorrow and I'll be back in the store next Saturday.

What a great weekend and we were busy, busy, busy at Quilt & Stitch. Marjorie brought in her latest quilt - a Judy Niemeyer design - looking for binding. What a beauty!! Marjorie is standing to the right and that's Carolyn holding up the quilt and hiding behind it, on the left!!
I also forgot to tell you that Laurene King-McGill was in this week and she looks wonderful - it was so good to see her. Best of all guys - she's ready to start teaching again this fall (which by the way is only a month and a half away).
I know you're going to feel very sorry for me because the family is away and I'm all alone for a whole week - just me and my pouch (who looks like a giant white rat since his last grooming session).

Christmas in July

Wow, what a day - it really was Christmas in July at Quilt & Stitch with over 140 bolts of fabric arriving - lots of Christmas prints, Batik's, Moda's and much, much more!! It's always great fun opening the boxes and seeing all the fabric but, then reality sets in and the hard work begins.
We didn't get it all processed so you'll have to bare with us - trust me, it will be well worth the wait. I think that it's a pretty safe bet to say that our 40% off section will be growing (gotta make room for all the new stuff after all)!!

I didn't get a chance to go to the Picton Quilt Show after all but, I was very excited to learn that one of our very special clients won 1st prize with her beautiful Celtic knot quilt - CONGRATULATIONS Ginny Klein!!
Monday we had a lovely visit from Karen who moved (unfortunately for us) to the Maritimes a couple of years ago. I'll post the pictures for you as soon as they come in!
There was a bit of excitement in our beautiful downtown today. I had just had my hair done and decided to stop by Tara foods - there was a large group of people across the street. I was told, when I was at the cash checking out, that there was a rumor was Michael Ignatieff was having lunch at Chez Pippy - Iggy was eating at the Piggy!!

Sunday morning - life is getting back to normal - as normal as it gets for me - for the past two weeks my youngest daughter was visiting and as I'm writing she is on her way - flying back to Edmonton. It's always nice to have company come (it forces me to clean up) but, it's always a relief when they leave!!
My oldest Jessica and her husband drove Britney to Toronto last night and stayed over. I stayed home with the grand-kids - my grand son, for some reason was inspired to tidy up his room when he was getting ready for bed. I told him he had done a great job - at which point he confessed that he had just thrown everything into his closet - he then went on the explain that it was ok for him to do that because he never opened the closest door!!

Sharon and Carolyn are still at the Picton Quilt Show which is apparently an amazing show - I might just have to take some time off today and drop in!

Summer is in full swing and we're getting ready for our Halloween and Christmas prints to arrive - any day now!!

We've been busy packing up Sharon and Carolyn for this weekends Prince Edward County Quilt Show! But, not too busy to open a box of beautiful fashion fabric (great knits for yoga pants)!

I really enjoyed the rain today that is until I realized that I`d left my car window wide open. Then, I was helping Carolyn put something into the trunk of her car - she`d backed it in the parking spot - I was so focused on not getting the box wet that I banged my head on the lid of the trunk.

We had a great time at the store today - Adriana and I were very busy watching the soccer game between Holland and Uruguay. Adriana was dressed for the occasion - in orange!

I don`t know much about the game - I`m a hockey mom remember! But, it was great fun to watch all those gorgeous young men running around the field!

I decided to take a few more pictures after I finished with Adriana and caught Brenda and Cheryl helping someone pick fabric for her quilt project.

I asked if they minded if I posted it on my blog and Cheryl said - go ahead no one reads your blog anyway!! I`m crushed!

Well, here we are SUMMER!! This is not always the best time of the year for me because I hate having to shed those protective layers - of clothing!! That really is the least of my problems - I was at my
grandson's softball game on Monday evening - the poor coach was all by himself and asked me and one of the mother's to help out - a request I'm certain he regrets. I don't know how to score keep so,
I was put in charge of the batting order, to make sure the kids had on their helmets and had the right bat! That put me too close to the action. I tend to be a bit competitive and when I get excited... well, look out!
I thought I was yelling encouragements to the players - but, somehow I don't think it sounded like that. My HOCKEY MOM VOICE came out - I sounded like a shrew - my screechy womany voice (as my younger daughter calls it) was back with a vengeance - thank goodness there were only 4 innings!!

I am absolutely exhausted - Debbi who is much younger than I isn't - not at all fair!!! We decided
to make some changes to our sewing machine room - cozy it up so to speak - I must have been up and down the ladder (what feels like) a million times - hanging quilts and embroidery samples. The fatigue (the last 2 nights I've been in bed asleep before 10 pm) is just a reminder that I'm over 60 - another birthday is coming up!! August 3 - don't forget - I think we should have a party!!!

We had a great time at this years Quilter's Shop Hop - groups from all over Ontario, Quebec and the United States participated. Great fun was had by all! The winner of our 2010 Shop Hop quilt top is Nellie Van de Ven - congratulations Nellie!! There's more...we also had a few door prizes to give away and the winners are - first prize goes to Heather McClure; second prize to Geri Shortt and the third prize goes to Sandy White. The Shop Hop grand prize winners will be drawn Monday, June 28 - I'll try and post the winning names the evening of - stay tuned!

I went to Toronto yesterday, on business - nothing exciting going on in this life - I was driving past Trenton and noticed a very large, very slow plane, off to the right of my vision - then I noticed what I thought were birds, way too close to the plane. Was it a bird - no it was a parachuter - about 5 or 6 actually - if I had been near an exit I would have pulled off the highway - I have only every seen parachuters on TV and at the movies - well anyway, I thought it was exciting!

Hi everyone - great news - the new roof is up and finished - at least on our side of the plaza -
all our students and shoppers were so understanding about the noise, the mess, the lack of air conditioning and the smell (which wasn't me but the tar - you could actually taste it at times) -
I think everyone of us had a headache or five over the two week period of suffering - I did -
thank goodness for those cheap drugs.
We had a lot of work to do preparing the store for the roofers. We had to take all the quilts and other things off the walls, cover everything else up with plastic and tarpaulins (good job
too because a little tar dripped through some cracks in the roof - over my desk in the office that
I share with Adriana). When it was all over we reversed the process - after we took down and folded all the tarps and the plastic - we had to hang all the quilts and things back up on the walls. Then
we decided to re-arrange the store to get ready for "SHOP HOP"!!
While we were doing all this work two of us were carrying a piece of furniture - I, who shouldn't
talk and walk at the same time was doing the walking backwards part of the carrying and backed
right into one or two of those lethal hooks that hold the patterns - ouch!
Debbi decided that I was dangerous and so took over for me - within seconds she too had backed into something - I must say she did a way better job of it than I - she almost took out the whole unit.
Oh, what fun we had - lots of colour - all be it black and blue!!!!

Just so you know Quilt & Stitch is on summer hours - Monday - Friday, 9:30 am - 5 pm; Saturday, 9:30 am - 4 pm. Regular hours apply during Shop Hop June 10, 11 & 12.

It's Sunday, my day off, the temperature has plummeted and its raining. I had to have a
hot chocolate to warm up after walking the dog - I should have added a few drops of Bailey's -
that might have made the day a little brighter!!

Holiday Weekend

We are heading into what looks to be a wonderful long weekend - Quilt & Stitch will be open Saturday
9:30 am - 5:30 pm closed Sunday and Monday - have fun - I know I'll be in the sewing room - hopefully working on some summer clothes - the last time I sat down to sew my grand daughter talked me into making her American Doll some clothes (not my favorite past time I can assure you).

Flighty weekend

Since the merger I thought my life was calming down - it has been teetering on the verge of BORING - I thought I'd have never have another silly or crazy story to tell you. Well, I was wrong!
We have had a bit of excitement around our place over the last couple of days - I think it started Wednesday - I don't know if any of you remember the trouble we had with bats getting into our house
a few years ago but, it was so bad that my daughter and son-in-law had to hire someone to seal the house to keep them out. There was a bit of bad weather the other day and I started hearing noises
coming from the fireplace when I was sitting in the family room. I thought it was just a bad wind but, when I looked outside it really didn't look that bad - so, I mentioned it to my son-in-law Glenn. I told him that it sounded like birds nesting - but, no it was just my imagination. The noise persisted until Glenn decided he needed to see what was in the chimney - I told him it sounded like birds - but, no he rigged the camera to an old tripod and then strapped it to a very long metal pole.
He had the ladder set up on the lawn and was going to climb up and film what ever it was that was going on up there. Well, he is very afraid of heights so I offered to climb the ladder. He was ok with that but decided he should check to see it the pole was long enough for the camera to get up high enough to film the top of the chimney - in theory it was a sound idea. But, lucky for me the pole wasn't long enough. We abandoned the attempt.
The noise continued - until tonight when Glenn actually saw the bird - yes it was a bird - in the chimney behind the grate. I had to take the dog who was going crazy down to the basement and Glenn and Jessica called some of the neighbours in to help them coax this poor bird out the back door.
So much for BORING!!

Happy Mothers Day - I hope you are having a great day! I was taken out for a lovely lunch by my
oldest daughter and her family - not to the restaurant that we had booked but it was great anyway.
My daughter and I decided late yesterday that we wanted to go out for a nice lunch today and so
I called to reserve a table for noon at our favorite spot "Bella Bistro". I was told by who ever it
was that answered the phone that they where full for noon but, they could book us for 1:30. Well, my daughter and her family go to his family for mothers day - always have. 1:30 was out of the question.
I asked what time they opened - which was I was told was 11 am. I asked if we could we have a reservation for then. No problem the person on the line said - well, guess what - there was a problem!!
When we got got to the restaurant 11 am it wasn't open and according to the information on the door it never opened at 11 am. It opened at 11:30 every day of the week - not just Sunday - so I can't figure
out where the 11 o'clock came from.
We were all disappointed and a little irritated (it is very hard getting 3 adults and 2 kids on the same page at the same time and as it was we were 5 minutes late) - so we hooped back into the van and headed off the Costco. Lucky for us my son-in-law had his eyes open and caught an OPEN sign for another great restaurant. The moral is "alls well that ends well" - and it will talke me a week to burn off the calories!!

It's taken me forever to get onto this blog tonight - I forgot what email address I used when I set it up
(I have 5) - you'll have to forgive my memory blank, it could have been because of the bump on my head! And, I have been so good lately - no accidents!!!!
If you don't already know, I live in the basement of the house I share with my oldest daughter, my son-in-law and my two grandchildren. I have a nice granny suite. I went up the stairs tonight to find the dog (he sleeps in my room every night) - all the lights were out and I don't see too well in the dark - I stepped into the hall and walked right into the side of the open powder room door. Ouch - that hurt (and I couldn't yell - everyone was sleeping) I almost broke my glasses and I have a headache over my right eye and not one little bruise to show for it.
